P2- Recce Check

During filming it is reasonable to assume that we may come across a few interruptions that would temporarily halt our filming. It is important that we have solutions or 'back up plans' in case any problems arise during filming so that we can efficiently work past these pauses.

Are the roads we intend to film on busy with cars and pedestrians?

  • Upon inspection we have found that the roads we will be filming on do not have hardly any pedestrians walking across them at certain times of the day. This included mid-day so we have decided to film at this time in order to prevent any unwanted pedestrians in the area we are filming. However, we found that while the roads weren't very busy with traffic there was still an occasional car at all times of the day so we would have to just be extremely cautious of this. We also found that the second road we would be filming on was much too busy with traffic and pedestrians so we decided to only film these scenes on the first location.
  • We also found that on some of the roads we had planned on filming on the pavement was very uneven and would pose many risks to our cast and crew. We decided to avoid roads such as this whilst filming in order to protect cast, crew and equipment from accidents.

P2- Risk Assessment

Several things could go wrong during filming and so this risk assessment is important to produce so that we can be prepared for any of the following events:

  • We could experience bad weather such as rain or harsh winds during filming. This would make it impossible for the actors to work as they may become sick from the weather and as well as this the quality of filming would not be very good. In order to prevent this instance we have decided to secure the following day with our actors and equipment to be able to film.
  • Actors may be sick or late when they are expected to film scenes so in the situation that one of our actors is not able to attend we will have 'understudies' on set to take over at any time.
  • Props may get damaged during filming so we have a back up set of props that we can easily switch with the originals in case of any damages.
  • Our equipment could break during filming so it is important that we ensure the cameras and such are kept safe from any risks as the cameras and equipment are being hired from Prior and are not our own.
  • We will also have to ensure that we bring our extra memory cards during filming as we found when taking our sample footage we were not allotted much space and had to finish filming prematurely.

P1- Locations

We will be filming on several locations as we need multiple sets for our short film. We need a new 'home' for each of the three customers, so we need at least three locations.

Location 1: Home Setting.
To be filmed at Sophie's (actor's) home in Tolesby.

Location 2: Home Setting.
To be filmed at my own home in Linthorpe.

Location 3: Home Setting.
To be filmed at Hannah's (other director/producer) home in Acklam.

P1- Costumes and Props

Costumes and Props:

We will need multiple props in order to ensure that our mockumentary looks authentic.
Props:

  • We will use 3 different purses/wallets containing money for each of the Customer's to 'pay' for their pizza deliveries.
  • We will use between 2 and 3 Pizza Boxes for the Pizza Boy to deliver to customers.
  • We will also use either a scooter or bike for the Pizza Boy to use as his transportation. A scooter is preferred for the comedic effect.

Costumes:

Pizza Boy:
  • Red jacket displaying the Pizza Shop logo 'Pedro's Pizza' on the back, the front will have a smaller logo and also have a name tag.
  • Matching red cap that will also display the logo.
  • White shirt.
  • Black or Blue jeans/leggings/pants.
Customers:
  • All will be wearing average/everyday informal clothing.

P1- Schedule/Production Process

Friday 3rd October

Today we filmed the 'manager' scene which features one actor playing the manager of the pizza shop and in the scene we conduct an interview asking questions in relation to the employee 'Pizza Boy'. We each took turns filming using the camera and gave equal direction for the actors used.
The actors used today were; Emma Mitchell who played the manager of the pizza shop and we also had Grace Cuff voicing the role of the interviewer.
We set this location on site at college in an office as we needed the professional environment for the mise en scene.

Sunday 5th October

Today we filmed 2 customer scenes, a couple of small scenes of the pizza boy on his 'scooter' and also some extra scenes that we may or may not include in the end production. The actors used in this scene were as follows;
Aimee Clark played the role of Tyler/Taylor the Pizza boy,
Georgia Broads played the role of a 'posh' customer named Deborah,
Dawn Little voiced the character Derek who is Deborah's husband.
Hannah used the college camera which we hired to film, whilst I used my own camera to film the scenes from a different angle. We both gave a lot of direction for different scenes.
The location was set at Hannah's house where we filmed scenes on the street and on her front garden.

Wednesday 8th October

Today Hannah and I sorted through the scenes we have previously shot and decided which were the best that we could use. I also updated my blog posts.

Friday 10th October (After College)

Finish filming the final 2 customer scenes and also film an interview scene with the pizza boy addressing the camera.
The location for this day is at my own home and I will be doing all the filming and directing as Hannah will not be present.
The actors being used will be;
Aimee Clark playing the role of Pizza Boy,
Dawn Little playing a new on screen character,
Sophie Heath playing a on screen customer.

C: How long have you had the job?
PB: A month. It started as a summer job but I quickly realised that this is what I was meant to do. I take my job very seriously. Which is why I’m excited that this documentary is finally going to show everyone just how important my role is.
