P1- Schedule/Production Process

Friday 3rd October

Today we filmed the 'manager' scene which features one actor playing the manager of the pizza shop and in the scene we conduct an interview asking questions in relation to the employee 'Pizza Boy'. We each took turns filming using the camera and gave equal direction for the actors used.
The actors used today were; Emma Mitchell who played the manager of the pizza shop and we also had Grace Cuff voicing the role of the interviewer.
We set this location on site at college in an office as we needed the professional environment for the mise en scene.

Sunday 5th October

Today we filmed 2 customer scenes, a couple of small scenes of the pizza boy on his 'scooter' and also some extra scenes that we may or may not include in the end production. The actors used in this scene were as follows;
Aimee Clark played the role of Tyler/Taylor the Pizza boy,
Georgia Broads played the role of a 'posh' customer named Deborah,
Dawn Little voiced the character Derek who is Deborah's husband.
Hannah used the college camera which we hired to film, whilst I used my own camera to film the scenes from a different angle. We both gave a lot of direction for different scenes.
The location was set at Hannah's house where we filmed scenes on the street and on her front garden.

Wednesday 8th October

Today Hannah and I sorted through the scenes we have previously shot and decided which were the best that we could use. I also updated my blog posts.

Friday 10th October (After College)

Finish filming the final 2 customer scenes and also film an interview scene with the pizza boy addressing the camera.
The location for this day is at my own home and I will be doing all the filming and directing as Hannah will not be present.
The actors being used will be;
Aimee Clark playing the role of Pizza Boy,
Dawn Little playing a new on screen character,
Sophie Heath playing a on screen customer.

P1-Sample Script

‘Pizza Boy’ Script

Scene 1
Pizza Boy is talking to the camera, introduction. (C- Cameraman, PB- Pizza Boy)

PB: So my shift is just beginning and it’s my responsibility to deliver these pizzas quickly and safely.
C: Is your job dangerous?
PB: It can be. But I was trained and I knew what I was walking into when I took the job.
C: How long have you had the job?
PB: A month. It started as a summer job but I quickly realised that this is what I was meant to do. I take my job very seriously. Which is why I’m excited that this documentary is finally going to show everyone just how important my role is.

Scene 2
Manager of the Pizza shop giving an interview. (I- Interviewer, M- Manager)

I: Is Tyler a good employee?
M: Who?
I: Tyler

[Manager looks clearly confused before whispering.] : Whose Tyler?

P1- Target Audience/Similar Products

Target Audience:

Gender: My short film is targeted at both males and females due to the unisex nature of the production. There isn't a specific gender that this film is targeted too.

Age: The target age is young adults ranging from 16 year olds to 24 year olds as these are often the ages that young people are not fully respected in their job roles. This is part of the message of the film so its important that the youth that the film defends manage to see the production. However it is also encouraged for older audiences so that they may see the message and take it into account.

My film will appeal to students as they are more accustomed to the humour that can be brought from awkward and embarrassing situations such as the scenes shown in my short film. They also have experience with part time jobs such as the 'Pizza delivery boy' role shown in mine so the main character would be relatable for them as he is also a student.

Similar Products:

I took the inspiration for my own short film from two similar products. The short film 'I'm Here' by Spike Jonze gave an insightful message of inequality, this message was very broad so I took this information to target a specific group of people 'youth in the workplace' to highlight the inequalities present there.
The other similar product which I took inspiration from was 'The man who can't stop putting things in bins' which is a Virgin Media short. This film is a mocumentary which gave me the inspiration to present my own short film in this way. I felt that I could deliver the message I wanted too in a comedic manner that the young adult audience would be able to better relate and receive.

BBFC Rating:

Our short film would have a Parental Guidance (PG) rating as there is no themes that would be upsetting for a young child. There is no strong language or violence in our production.

P1- Proposal

Synopsis:

'Pizza Boy' is a mockumentary based on the common job of a pizza delivery person. The short film follows a pizza 'boy' on their usual rounds of delivering pizzas, during the course of their shift the delivery person and 'film crew' is presented with a var
iety of different customers to be dealt with. The character of the delivery person themselves is used to present a persona who is often overlooked. This includes the manager of the pizza shop not even being famiiar with their own employee. The short film is a comedy but also represents how younger people in society are often overlooked or treated badly because of their age or occupation. I hope that our short film presents a message to audiences to be more considerate of youth in the future.

Running Time:

The short film will have a running time of up to approximately 5 minutes. Any higher than this will take the short film out of our allotted time but we have planned for this and so our film should have no problem not exceeding this number.

3 Key Scenes:

Key scene #1- Our first key scene is with the manager of the pizza shop. This scene features an interview between the interviewer and the manager, questions about the pizza boy's performance are asked to which the manager is confused as they are not even sure who the pizza boy is. This scene details again the message of how often young employees can be overlooked in the work industry.

Key Scene #2- The second key scene is a one on one interview with the camera crew and the pizza 'boy' in this scene the audience get a better insight into the character and why the documentary is taking place.

Key Scene #3- This scene is one of the multiple interactions that the delivery person has with a customer. This particular scene uses a customer of a higher status who almost belittles the delivery person. Again this highlights the message of inequality we are trying to show.

  • Pizza Boy- Tyler/Taylor played by Aimee Clark

  • Customer #1 (Rich couple)- Deborah played by Georgia Broad
